Microsoft has introduced a comprehensive investment plan called Digital AmBEtion with the aim of expediting the digital transformation of both public and private sectors in Belgium. The plan is composed of three fundamental elements, including state-of-the-art digital infrastructure, assistance in digital skill-building for citizens, and the creation of a sustainable societal impact. The prime focus of this initiative is the establishment of a novel datacenter region, which will provide advanced data security and cloud solutions, ensuring that Belgian organizations have local data residency and expedited cloud access.
This new datacenter region will enable Belgium to be a part of the largest cloud infrastructure network globally, comprising over 60 datacenter regions, and offer companies of all sizes and sectors access to Microsoft Azure at launch. The cloud services available will provide numerous technologies such as unlimited computing power, databases, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT).
On November 23rd, 2021, Microsoft and Prime Minister Alexander De Croo jointly announced the Digital AmBEtion initiative and the plan to open a datacenter region in Belgium. The Prime Minister also highlighted that this announcement will make Belgium a critical anchor point in Microsoft’s global cloud infrastructure, creating new economic opportunities and contributing to the nation’s digital competitiveness.
